London's biggest university bans student protests

The University of London - a body representing London universities including University College London, the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), Birkbeck and the London School of Economics - has banned protests on its campus for the next six months.

What started as a peaceful protest by the Elsipogtog Mi’kmaq First Nation in New Brunswick against a shale gas project has now spun violently out of control. After the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) advanced on the anti-fracking protest, demonstrators clashed with police, chemical agents were deployed and at least half a dozen police vehicles were destroyed by Molotov cocktails.

Mere hours into Anonymous’s worldwide Million Mask March, an arrest has already reportedly taken place in Washington, D.C., the focal point for the American demonstration.
